Removal of moles

The reasons for removing moles can be either aesthetic, the mole may bother you, get caught on your clothes, or you just may not like it. In the latter case, your doctor's recommendation after a thorough dermatoscopy will lead you to take this step. If you are worried about this procedure, rest assured that it is unnecessary. You will be surprised yourself how quickly, painlessly and elegantly we will get rid of them at Dermarevolt. We will put you in the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon.

Worried about the scar?
Are you hesitating whether to opt for surgical excision or elegant laser removal that promises minimal traces? Perhaps our expert's answer will help you:  ,,The laser can really remove formations without a noticeable trace. The problem is that it completely burns the mole. You don't get any sample from it, which is sent for histological examination after surgical excision. Only if it was significantly protruding and above the skin level, but such types are much less common. However, laser removal should only be performed on lesions that are 100% certain to be normal and show no signs of dangerous malignant potential,´´ explains Miroslav Mendel, MD. It is therefore wise to make an appointment with a dermatologist for a mole examination first.

What will it assure you of?
The histological examination is necessary, he said, because of two very important factors that are detected in the laboratory. The results will show exactly what the mass was, but more importantly, whether it has been removed completely, down to the last possible cell that could be positive and start to multiply uncontrollably.

What to remember when ordering?
If you are taking blood-thinning medications, you must be advised of this and discontinue them, depending on the type of medication, for a standard 10 days prior to the procedure. For some of the newer medications, 3-4 days is sufficient. In the case of a blood clotting disorder, this is more complicated, according to the plastic surgeon:  ``A statement from the haematologist is required so that we do not reach a situation where we are unable to stop the bleeding of the wound in the ambulance.``

Is the procedure painful?
You don't have to worry about the actual surgical removal of the mole. It takes place on an outpatient basis and thanks to the administration of local anaesthetic you do not have to worry about pain. If you are allergic to a particular anaesthetic, you must inform the doctor about this when booking the appointment.

How will the procedure restrict me?
After the procedure, our plastic surgeon will instruct you on all the necessary post-removal care measures. Healing is not complicated. After a week, you will have the site taped over, and the stitches will be removed seven to fourteen days after the date of excision, depending on the location and extent of the incision. The skin should then be protected from the sun and you should use a sunscreen even after healing.
